| Hello everyone!
We arrived in Port au Prince safe and sound August 26th and have been unpacking and sorting through things since then. Karl has set up his new office upstairs in our home, which will work well. Our furlough was busy, but we had good times with our family, and seeing our grandchildren was a special joy as you can imagine! We also traveled over 3,000 miles. speaking in churches, talking with many supporters, new people, and several other pastors and board members about our ending one season of ministry at Quisqueya Chapel and beginning something new. We were encouraged and strengthened as we talked and shared our PowerPoint, and have come back excited as we step out in faith to move forward.

We have new prayer cards and business cards for our new ministry, SIG Ministries. The meaning, ‘Standing In the Gap’, is taken from Ezekiel 22:30, which was on our very first prayer card when we came to Haiti 11 years ago, and it’s truth has continued to be a part of our ministry. As we explained in our June letter, we will be assisting LACC (Latin America Child Care), Baptist Haiti Mission, and also Christian Light Ministry, who are already doing things we are interested in as well - ‘standing in the gap’ with them. We would love to send you a prayer card, so let us know and we will mail one to you. PRAYER CARD REQUEST

Our First Sunday Back: Before we left for furlough, a Haitian pastor had asked Karl to preach at the 6:30am service on our first Sunday back, August 30th, and it was a blessing to go. After that we went to a baptismal service for Canadian missionaries, held in another Haitian church, and that was good also. Between the 2 churches we spent 4 1/2 hours in church services – guess the Lord wanted us to be busy on our first Sunday back, and we are very grateful for His provision.
Pastor Seminar: As an example of ‘standing in the gap’ - Christian Light’s director, Sherrie Fausey, for some time has desperately wanted some additional training for the pastors she’s been working with, and Karl met with these pastors in June. Now that Karl is able to pursue more freely one of his passions, ‘pastoring pastors,’ a plan was set several months ago, and he will begin the first Pastor Seminar from Sept 14 – Oct 12. Needless to say, he’s excited.
Baptist Haiti Mission: We met with BHM’s directors, Rob and Patti Baker yesterday. Rob also has a passion for ‘pastoring pastors’ and they talked about different ways of approaching this, as BHM has several hundred pastors and lay pastors. In addition to having the pastors come to the mission for seminars, they are exploring ways to take the teaching to them in their area, where it could be more personal and apropos to their situations.
LACC: Bill & Dorothy Smith were expecting 2 pastors to come in yesterday, but due to the tropical storm possibly hitting this weekend, they decided to come another time. But the purpose of their trip is to look at several LACC schools to see what work needs to be done to improve the environment for teaching the students, then bring teams in to do the work. Since we’ve had some experience with teams – with14 years of coming to Haiti on teams and now hosting teams here, we feel comfortable addressing some of the issues teams face.

New SIG Computer: One of our wonderful supporting churches wrote us last spring asking what they could do to help us begin our new work. The pastor new well the struggles Ann had been having with the computer she had, so when we responded, ‘helping us get a new computer’, he wasn’t surprised! Through their ‘over and above the call of duty’ they provided Ann with a new computer, and though she’s on a learning curve, she is excited to know that she now has something that will work well. Sorry there are not any photos with this update – next time!!
Mailing Address - will remain exactly the same – Quisqueya Chapel is allowing us to continue receiving our mail at their address -
New 501c3: The previous organization processing our support (IDEA Ministries) unexpectedly closed in July, but through a friend we found Berean Mission Alliance to handle our support. We are very confident that they will serve us on the field, and you ‘standing in the gap’ for us – well. Their contact information is below, so please contact them if you have any questions. Randy and Tamara Nelson will be happy to help you.
Please pray with us for:
** SIG to bring honor to the Lord and a blessing to Haiti and her people
** Karl and Ann to have God’s wisdom and discernment as we begin
** Ann as she learns how to do all that’s needed for SIG’s needs
Please thank the Lord for:
** Good times with our family and grandchildren
** Provision for another 501c3 to process our support
