GREETINGS FROM HAITI !!

April 2009

Report on Josh:

Thank You so much for prayers and emails concerning how 14 year old Josh is doing after his 22’ fall from a 2 story building onto the rocky ground beneath.

He is doing very well

All testing shows a clean bill of health, except for alittle soreness in his neck which should ease as time goes by. He’s doing all of his regular activities, including doing well in his school work, playing his guitar (as seen in the photo), and also playing soccer! His accident came just before the unfortunate death of an American actress who fell on the learner’s slope while skiing, assuming at first she was fine, but later died. Another death, here in Haiti, of a missionary who fell from a one story building and died, have impacted Josh’s life that it was only the Lord Himself who spared his life. We call him the ‘miracle kid’….

GREETINGS FROM HAITI

Dear Friends,

Workteam from VT – came Feb. 23 to March 2, and we had a wonderful time working and sharing many wonderful moments together. They worked hard to accomplish the projects that had been planned:

For Quisqueya Chapel, they put up 2 more ceiling fans in the sanctuary, which is wonderful! With 250 people sitting under a tin roof, 2 more functioning fans gives us welcome relief under the hot Caribbean sun! They also painted some of the railings and windows, repaired the soccer goals, repaired picnic tables used outside, repaired a puppet stage for the puppets they brought down, and fixed some electrical wiring in the Chapel office.

Loading benches at the Quisqueya Chapel

They also built 12 benches for a church in Ft. Jacques in the mountains above Port au Prince. Karl has been working with the two pastors of this church for quite a few years now, and the team wanted to bless them. When we arrived, they were already pouring the floor for their sanctuary in anticipation for the arrival of the new benches.

A job well done!

They were encouraged and so were we!

A grateful recipient

The team also packed food for 100 families, including rice, beans, oil, sugar, and Maggie cubes (a spice in Haitian food). The food was distributed in a simple Haitian church, not too far from Port au Prince, and filled with people waiting our arrival. We had a singing service first, and then the food distribution. It all went very very well.

Waiting their turn

After repairing the puppet stage, several team members put on a show for our children at the Chapel during the Sunday School time. Everyone had a great time and the puppets taught valuable lessons for our kids.

A puppet lesson for QC’s children.

The children had a great time!

It was a very rewarding week and we are so glad they came. They come with a heart to serve and it’s always such a joy to have them come. We’ve attached some photos for you to see some of what they did.

Baptism: Karl taught a baptism class recently and these 3 young men went through the class successfully. Baptism is very important in Haiti, there are un-biblical beliefs regarding this, so it is very important to teach them the truth biblically so they are baptized for the right reason. They are regular attendees of the Chapel, and were very excited to take this important walk of faith.

HAD A BLESSED DAY CELEBRATING THE RISEN CHRIST

Sharing with these rough characters

Pastor Seminar – finished well after an 8 week course in teaching of Biblical truths, the logistics of preparing a sermon, learning how to use the e-cube when sharing their faith, learning how to bind the enemy who is always trying to destroy the Kingdom work’s fruit, and then taking an exam and receiving certificates. These men finished knowing the Lord in a better, clearer way, with increased understanding how to confront the enemy and stand their ground in Jesus’ mighty name. That’s why Karl has such a burden to share with pastors who have little opportunity for formal training, yet eager to be good pastors.

New Roof – how important is a roof….very important you’d say and so would we. With some of the relief funds you’ve sent, this bathroom now has a roof. Our good Esperandieu Pierre is responsible for building the school and bathroom (and a church too!) for this small, poor community and we wanted to help him. This school is located in the middle of a desert area, where the students have very little, living in mud huts. But they are fortunate to have this wonderful school and it was great fun to visit with the teachers and children, attend our first ‘bathroom dedication’! and see what God is doing!
