GREETINGS FROM HAITI !!

January 20, 2008 -- HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!

It's been awhile since we've written, so here are a few things we'd like to share with you. We have several photos, each telling a different story.

The following photos show a phenomena that's been happening for the past 2 years. Strangely, the water level in a large lake started rising a couple of years ago, and no one really knows why. In another part of Haiti, pieces of land are sinking, and no one really knows why. There is speculation, because of some minor earthquakes, that the interior of Haiti's land mass is changing, 'land going down and water coming up'. Le Tan, pictured below 2 years ago, is a small village located near this lake. The next row of photos shows the same village at the present time. People are displaced from their homes and tents have been set up as temporary housing. We hadn't visited this village again until recently...amazing, yet very sad.

We've been able to help in various ways with humanitarian relief projects, thanks to many of you who have helped. Below shows our vehicle packed full of food for 100 families that we took to the pastors of a church in Ft. Jacques, and the pastors with the first man to receive food for his family. Merry Christmas everyone!

A church in the US wanted to help a Haitian pastor give food to his congregation, so we facilitated this for them. This turned out to be a wonderful time for us, for as we met this pastor at One Stop Market, we realized that years ago we had met this pastor as a very young man, when we were coming down on work teams. We would stay at his church and he would help us. What a fun reunion to see him again, and see him serving the Lord. Our good friend Tarek at One Stop has helped us several times getting the needed sacks of rice, beans, bottles of oil, maggie cubes (a spice common to Haitian food) together for us. All we have to tell him is how money we have or how many families we need food for, and he does the rest!

           Thank you Tarek!

Just recently we were able to go to another village we hadn't visited in quite awhile, LeTann, located on the other side of this same lake. The director's house is almost surrounded by water now, and the family had to leave and find another place to live. We were able to find out where he was living and went to see them - they were so surprised and we enjoyed our short visit with them.

Another area on this same property provided a much needed water supply for this large agricultural area, where crops such as eggplant, okra, and shallots are grown. This generator and pump house pushed water from the lake through the irrigation system that fed these many fields. You can see the pipe protruding from the building, which carried the water to the top of the mountain, then gravity-fed to the fields through irrigation ditches. How sad to see this equipment ruined by the rising water.

The photo on the right shows another relief project - to have a cement roof built for this bathroom, located with a school 'in the middle of no where'....what a blessing to see these children have an opportunity to go to school! The roof will be built during these next couple of months.

Thank you again for standing with us through your
financial and prayerful support; we are so grateful.

Thank you for continuing to'help us help others'.

Please continue to pray for us for wisdom and
discernment, and for Haiti and her people.

May the Lord abundantly bless you many times over -

Blessings,

Karl and Ann
