HAPPENINGS IN HAITI

We trust 2012 will be a blessed year for you.

New Warehouse Dedication - took place January 18 with people in Haiti and the US came for this special event for Convoy of Hope. The founder and president Hal Donaldson, and other personnel and donors, came to celebrate with us the goodness of God. This new warehouse is 36,000 square feet (3x bigger than the one we have been using), and by the year's end we hope to increase our current level of feeding 54,000 children every school day to 100,000.

New Rice Initiative - is meeting COH's expectations, with the first harvest yielding 60/25# bags and the second harvest with 100/25# bags of rice. This 3 year program has the goal of increasing the number of children who eat feed this rice by 10,000 each year, totaling 30,000 children in 3 years. The rice will be supplemented with beans, vegetables and fruit, also grown here. This will give farmers a reason to go back to their fields planting and harvesting, and getting a fair price for their work. Two new milling machines have purchased to process rice more quickly and with better results than the old milling machine. This program is being directed by an agronomist now on COH's staff, and he's working with 2 Haitian agronomists here in Haiti. COH is excited about the potential of how this can impact Haiti and her people.

Mission of Hope - Haiti One - Convoy of Hope - how do they all fit together?

Here is a short description:

Mission of Hope: founded over 50 years ago, located in Titanyen about an hour's drive from PAP, have a school, an orphanage, and a clinic and hospital on their compound, plus schools in other locations.

Haiti One: several years ago MOH formed 'Haiti One' as a franchise (which requires Haitian government approval, not an easy feat), so they could receive containers in Haiti with needed materials and supplies. They then opened this opportunity to other NGO's (non-profit organizations) to partner with them so that they too could receive containers. This is a huge blessing to especially the smaller NGO's who couldn't do this for themselves, but by partnering with MOH, this opportunity is available.

Convoy of Hope: about 5-6 years ago Convoy of Hope, headquartered in Springfield, MO, began to search how to work in Haiti. The leaders of COH and MOH met together regarding a possible partnership which then became a reality. MOH gave COH some land to built a warehouse to store food and other essentials for distribution to schools and orphanages, and this partnership has been a huge mutual blessing to both. In January 2010 COH's warehouse was full of food ready for distribution, but the earthquake altered those plans. Quisqueya Chapel became a food distribution center, we were asked to organize the distribution of food for 4000+ people each day, and that was our introduction to COH. The months went by, we were asked to become a partner with them, and the rest is history! We have enjoyed working with COH, MOH, and Haiti One very much, and have had the privilege to work with people from all over the world who share the same concern for the poor. And as you read above, through MOH's continued generosity, COH now has a huge brand new warehouse. God is good.

We could not do what we do without your partnership with us and as an extension of your involvement, many children are able to eat every school day, farmers are going back to their fields, and we give the Lord all the praise for His goodness. Even though there are challenges, He will give the victory as all of us faithfully follow Him.

THANK YOU again for your faithful prayers and support,
for being partners with us in the work here.

Would you please pray with us for the following:

Better health, as both of us have had bad colds, the flu, Karl with walking pneumonia for the past month plus.

For 100,000 children to be receiving food every school day by the year's end.

Cholera - with the rains this time of year, more people are vulnerable. So far 6200 people have died and 440,000 people treated. Also the rains continue to make life miserable to the some 500,000 still living in tents since the earthquake over 1 1/2 year ago.
The rice initiative to succeed, which will lead to some Haitian farmers having the opportunity to become self-sufficient. The 'big picture' is that in time all Haitians will have the opportunity to become self-sufficient, as people work together for this to be a reality some day.   Rain - it's been 2.5-3 months since we've had any significant rain (does 1/2" count?) Everything is very dusty and many people sick. The clinic where Ann works see many sick people

Many many needs remain still unaddressed from the earthquake

PRAISE THE LORD with us.

The good things are happening here, and the people have hope - about 50% of the rubble has been cleared away, investors are coming to Haiti (as in the north, Cap Haitian), most people are happy with their new president; 100,000 more people have left their tents moved back into their homes, and 900,000 children in the country are going to school free through the government's educational program.   The honor you and we have as partners together to work at our assigned task here in Haiti. THANK YOU!

May the Lord bless and encourage you,

Karl and Ann
